Departing from the hotel pier, we navigate through the mangroves of the Chiquimulilla Canal, part of the Hawaii Multiple-Use Natural Reserve. It is a landscape full of life: tropical birds, reptiles, fish and mangrove vegetation.
The route reaches the Dormido sandbar, where the Los Esclavos river meets the sea, and shares the story of a village that ended up submerged underwater. Along the way, the ecological role of mangroves as a natural barrier and species nursery is explained.
